WHAT TO WEAR ON THE SLOPES

*Note that ski equipment (bibs, goggles, gloves, etc.) can be
borrowed from neighbors/family/friends. If you need assistance in gathering these items, reach out to ryeX staff. Also, you can choose to rent items from Ski Celebration:

$20.00 Two-Day Helmet Rental
$24.00 Two-Day Ski Pant Rental
Jacket
You will need an insulated jacket -– one that is windproof and water-resistant is best. If it is cold, you can add insulation to your upper body by wearing a long underwear top, turtleneck, and a sweatshirt, if necessary.

Gloves & Hat
You will need a pair of insulated gloves, preferably waterproof or water-resistant. Gloves with knit cuffs provide extra warmth. “Toboggan” hats are the most common– something you can pull down over your ears if it gets really cold. If the weather is warmer, a ball cap or headband is adequate.

Face
What you wear on your face depends on the weather= If it’s cold, you’ll need goggles and a face mask; if it’s warmer (say above 30 degrees) sunglasses and sunscreen are usually enough. If the slopes are making snow when you’re skiing, goggles are necessary. We will keep an eye on the weather, and you can check the top of the page for a weather report before we depart.

Pants
Insulated ski bibs or pants are the most commonly used clothing for your lower body. The outer shell of the garment should be water-resistant. If skiing conditions are very cold, you can add insulation with long underwear bottoms, leggings, or sweatpants (no jeans).

Socks
A pair of medium-weight, calf-length socks are necessary for ski boots. Acrylic or wool socks are better than cotton. Plan to bring multiple pairs for multiple days of skiing/snowboarding.

EXPECTATIONS

Each student is expected to act respectfully and responsibly throughout the trip. This includes behavior on the charter bus, at rest stops, restaurants, in the hotel, in the Ski Lodge, on the slopes, and in other public places. Such a retreat provides an excellent opportunity to help your students understand the responsibility each has to himself/herself and to the group.

Please stress to your student(s) the importance of honoring our guidelines and accepting the responsibility for making this a quality fellowship and social experience for each of us.

They must abide by rules of safety and respect throughout the trip.

For students to benefit as much as possible, we would like a shared understanding of our plans and expectations. Please carefully review the Covenant for ryeX Winter Ski Trip Retreat form with your student(s) and sign and return the form.

Covenant for ryeX Winter Ski Trip Retreat
Our ryex Winter Ski Trip Retreat is designed to allow students to travel together beyond the Roswell Presbyterian Church community to explore the greater environment first-hand through engaging in new experiences.
